Hello!

I've started another project, a P-51C Mustang. It will be to honor my father, who passed away a year ago. He was the one who ignited my love of WWII planes. He had a pilot's license when he was younger, then took up flying again after he retired (though he couldn't get his license due to his Parkinson's disease). When a dual-control P-51 Mustang came to town back in 2016, he signed up right away for a one-hour flight in it, even getting a chance to fly it for part of that hour.

I will be building a 1:72 scale Mustang and will paint it to be the one he flew in that day. My hope is to have it done in time to give to my mother on my dad's birthday this September. I have already got the patterns cut out and started cutting out the components.

If that's the P-51C from the Collings Foundation, it's the same aircraft my late brother paid to take a flight in a couple years ago when it toured through our area. He loved high-performance engines and built them for race car enthusiasts. The flight was his thrill-of-a-lifetime, and well worth the expense to him because, as he told me, "Money I've got; it's time I'm short of."
And so it goes...

Yes! It was that plane. That was the fastest $1,000+ I ever saw him spend.

The plane has since been refurbished and is for sale if anyone has $3.5 million...

I've made some progress on my Mustang. The wings are rough-shaped and I've marked the guidelines on the fuselage.

Coming along nicely.

Scanned this from an old model kit instruction sheet. I agree with the center illustration wholeheartedly...

I was able to make some progress on my Mustang as well. I got the wings notched and fitted to the fuselage. If I build another one in the future, I will only carve the lower nose until the leading edge of the wings. Oh well, I'll fill that in with putty.

I see a Mustang. Well done.
