Hello everyone!

Being new to this hobby, I'm curious how you all organize your projects as they are being worked on. Right now I just have things somewhat strewn about on my desk and work bench. What do you use for storing the parts for each plane, paper plans, etc. as you go along?  Thanks for all the help and encouragement from everyone I've received so far.

Best,

Hi Jordan

I have the same issue. "Where did i place those parts"? I don't have an issue with the fuselage. But it's all the other parts. I've opted to purchase a few plastic containers for storing parts (wings, tails, elevators, nacelles, etc.) By having a few containers the same size, they are easily stacked. I also place my station templates in the plastic container so they don't become lost.

With regards to plans, I just keep them in a pile. I normally trace my plans in CAD (TurboCad). This allows me to validate the various relationships which sometimes don't match (ie sections not sized correctly, etc.) Because the plans are in a CAD program, once I have cut out my station, plan and profile templates, I am off to the races. When I require additional info (nacelle details, etc.), I can easily print of a section from the CAD drawing or work directly from the CAD file when I require it. I find using the CAD file allows me to easily establish dimensions for making parts or positioning parts on the model, etc.

I usually have some semblance of order on my bench, although you won't find that today. The hand tools are on a plywood board, and the smaller hobby knives/razor saw are mounted on my workspace's back. Models' parts are placed in old kit boxes for the most part. I try to keep things in order, but the spirit is strong, but the flesh is weak.
