We call those box scale, because manufacturers would make the model to fit a particular box size. Nice Hurricane .

Common when plastic kits first became popular,many of the American manufacturers would literally make the model to fit a standard sized box that was used for the entire line of models.

What kind of wood are you using? What tools do you use to carve your models?

Lou, the wood is 300 year old cedar(they are old floorboards), and the tools are:
.vice
.files
.chisel
.excel model knife
.sandpaper
.scroll saw
.fret saw
.hacksaw
these are most of the tools I use.
