I use Music or Piano wire. Even the finest thread sized wire needs to be bent with pliers.
I use a needle to poke a small hole where each end is going. Then measure the distance with a pair of dividers. Add about 1/8 inch to the length so you have 1/16" at each end to poke into the wood. Cover that little tip with Super glue after you've done a test fit. It's cheap and available at most hobby shops or mail order houses. For wires that need to dip, conform or otherwise giva a little, I use bracelet making wire available at most craft stores
in a variety if tiny, tiny sizes. It's easier to bend, works great for ship rails or aireals that have a little sag to them. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Depending on the size of wire your trying to represent, old fashioned dental floss can work well. It doesn't "fuzz".
