Solid Models to restore - and they were free

At the meeting of my local IPMS group the other week I picked up some old airfix kits in the auction held of a local modeller who recently died - you won't be interested in them as they're off topic.  However the pile of built planes were free to a good home and amongst a very wide selection of plastic (including some off-beat flying boats) I picked out a few ancient wood solids:
Only the B-24 was in reasonable condition, if needing restoration:

These crew were skulking in the fortress box - could they be skybirds?  There are several in the planes too!

Well I now have plenty of stuff to get on with - my daughter (11 years) would like to do a solid spitfire like my P-40 too!

Will these are wonderful relics from the past,just like un-restored paintings discovered in a loft,I know that you will enjoy restoring them to as they were intended to be put together and be added to your collection to remind us of how things used to be for model builders before the advent of plastic kits,and remember how many plastics would have survived that long ? I think that they are great and will continue to give enjoyment for many years to come after your TLC,well done for saving them,they have truly come home.
The B-24 is a real gem of a model.

Very interesting, especially those tin engine cowlings and engines.  I have a wartime Stuka with wheel pants and u/c leg fairings made the same way....pressed tin.

Mark sometimes you can see the names of treacle and other food products on the reverse of those tin fittings,as only salvaged material could be used they tried all sorts of things,I have wheels and excellent engine cowls made from red fired clay,some bakelite items had multi coloured swirls when they used odd bits of material,all part of the social history of this now historic stuff.
