A great model of an aircraft not modelled often.

Good idea with lozenge printed on tissue.

 Well Done!

The masks are all off and I was able to get the prop discs made last night as well. I made a little spacer piece to go behind the prop disc to set it out in front of the engine nacelle. I used the same piano wire for the hub assembly that I did for the guns on my P-47. That stuff has come in really handy! I'll certainly be buying more of it for future use.

I just need to paint the propeller hubs and put the wheels on and it will be ready for the race tomorrow. Decals and other details will have to wait until later.

Painter's tape. Lots and lots of painter's tape, cut in strips about 1/16" wide and laid down parallel.

Very nice model, Jim. What is your technique for the ribbing on the wings and tail?

Submitted: The Junkers J-1 armored ground attack and infantry cooperation two-seater, in 1918 markings. I tried something new with this model, appropriating a technique borrowed from stick-and-tissue model-building: printing the fuselage lozenge markings on tissue paper and adhering them with washable glue-stick adhesive. It appears to have worked well, save for being a bit darker than I'd have preferred. I think I can address that next time in the image processing. One other innovation was the use of soft plastic 1/72-scale aftermarket figures for the pilot and gunner, courtesy of a product found on the internet: "Pilots of the First Wirld War" by Orion-Dark Dream Studios in Ukraine. 48 mostly related figures per box in 24 poses. Some slight alterations and painting needed, but generally satisfactory, and saves an awful lot offiddly hand-carving!

I got all the tape off of the camo. The black is also on, but didn't get it photographed. I also got the windows masked. Due to the time crunch, I left off the upper windows and the "cheek" windows. I probably also won't get decals on before Saturday's race. I'll do those after. I might even go back and add the upper and cheek windows.

Side note: This happens to be my 100th post! Thanks for letting me be a part of this great community of builders!

Thanks for the positive feedback. I wasn't sure how it would turn out. Thought it may not be very colourful. But I am pleased with the results.

As previously mentioned, I was able to address the issues with the first fuselage, so will assemble a second model, but with different markings. All the components were previously fabricated, so all that is required is to assemble the model.

Now that it's assembled, will perform some tidy up and final sanding before starting the paint process. Will change my approach on the primer as I incurred issues with the BIN shellac primer peeling off from the wood on the trailing edge of the wings when I removed some masking tape. The Tamiya paints stuck to the BIN. I am certainly perplexed as to why the shellac primer did not stick to the wood. Maybe I sprayed it when the weather was too cold. I don't like spraying shellac indoors due to the odours.
