Your father would be proud of you honoring his memory. Knowing your talent, it is certainly going to be a wonderful tribute.

Thanks. Long ago, he told me about carving the model and I only found the certificate much later in a folder with his diploma, birth certificate and other personal papers. He joined the Navy in 1945 and served on Ford Island, Hawaii. Interestingly, he worked on various planes including the Martin JM-1, which is the Navy version of the B-26. They were used as target tugs and painted entirely yellow. I have photos that he took while serving there.

My B-26 is on hold. I botched carving the engine nacelles so I'll need to remake those. I have the wing carved and notched to the fuselage, though.

Wow, Dave! That is amazing! How special for you and your family to have that certificate. I'm sure that will make it a very meaningful model for you. Will you be painting black like the WWII ID models or painting it up like a model?

I am starting a Marauder in 1/72 by working from the WWII-era recognition model plans. My dad made a B-26 from these plans in 1943. It was the only model he carved as far as I know. He grew up in New Brunswick, New Jersey and graduated from South River High School in 1945.

Attached is a scan of the certificate he received for his contribution to the war effort -

Thank you! Unfortunately it didn't get to race today. Some stray super glue got between one wheel and the axel, so it wouldn't turn. I had it out on display, though. I got lots of comments on it, for sure.
