Slow start to the MB-339.
Lou
Good start Lou, I see you've been using Gorilla glue. Regards Paul.
Gorilla glue was just used for the lamination of the fuselage.
Lou
Contour carving has begun.
Lou
A very attractive subject Lou.
Barry.
Thank you Barry. I want to do a series of 1/48 jets.
Lou
Good progress Lou, regards Paul.
Not much going on. It has been quite chilly in my unfinished basement. It normally hangs around 14 to 16C but lately it was closer to 10C.
Lou
I think we are all suffering with this bad weather Lou,its holding us up and impossible to even put primer on.
Barry.
Wing fences and body fins are glued and putty has been sanded. Still have not decided what colour scheme as the Freccia Tricolore is beyond my decal making skills. The striping is fine but the lettering is out of the question.
Lou
Coming on well Lou.Regards Paul J.
Lou,
Can you show us the lettering you'd have trouble with? Is this it?
Mark
Yes it is. My printer does not make solid colours hence the problem with clear decal film. To cut around the yellow letters on white film is also not very feasible. I looked to buy some aftermarket decals but nobody puts them out.
Lou
Lou,
Have you ever tried carefully positioning one decal on top of another to get good color opacity? Not as hard as it sounds.
Mark
Found the font:
http://www.azfonts.net/load_font/dubbelmn.html
Thank you for the font. That may do the trick. Here is a sample of the font with dark blue background. Now if I can match the colour to the decal!!!!!!
Lou
Cool,
Watch your spelling....it's tricolori
Lou, what are the dimensions - height and width - of the yellow numbers and words that you require for your model? I may be able to supply them. As you know I've been labouring for quite a long time making decals for a couple of models that I may build.
Cliff.
Mark, I just banged that label quickly without much care. This reminder will keep me from maj-king that mistake when I do the decal. Thanks.
Cliff, thanks for the offer but I will try to do it myself now that I have the font.
Lou
You're welcome Lou. As it turns out I'm still having trouble with my decals. If I had the dimensions and a coloured photo I would have removed the blue background using layers and then printed to decal paper. So all has turned out OK again. Computers! And to think that people actually go into space trusting in them. I'm glad that I quit flying when they started to remove the wings ;).
Cliff.
First coat of primer.
Lou
Final coat of primer after approx two hours of sanding with extra fine sandpaper. Paint has been purchased but I await going to the local shop for Tamiya tape for the paint edges.
Lou
It took forever for the paint to cure. The masking is Tamiya tape that will be over sprayed with the base grey colour to do some extra sealing in case the darker blue tries to seep under the tape.
Lou
Gloss white is being applied as painting white over dark blue is not always fun. The white will be masked followed by the green, red, dark blue and lastly silver. The leading edges, bottom fuselage and under wing areas are metallic. I never really paid much attention to the bottom colours as not many pictures show that area clearly. Photos will follow once some worthy progress occurs.
Lou
More masking and a quick light application of white before the dark blue.
Lou
Looking good Lou, some delicate masking on this one.Regards Paul J.
The white gloss paint is fairly thick. Next time I will spray white primer from the start.
Lou
Lou, the decal you illustrate should be Frecce Tricolori. Hope this is not too late.
The model looks great so far.
Will
Lou, Here's decent underside view; not sure if it's metallic or gray.

I have not made the decal yet. Thanks for the hint. I tried using Word Art but the letters do not have clear definition. Normal print and adding the slant lettering seems to work out better.
Lou
This is going to be a very attractive subject with that wonderful scheme.
Barry.
Temporarily out of the paint shop before attempting the red and green features. It need a bit of clean up where the paint bled under the tape.
Lou
Looking great in that c/scheme Lou, thats the bit that I get most aprehensive about, masking and getting the edges down tight enough, I haven't tried the frog tape yet, I'm still building up to trying it, I'm using Tamiya like you. Regards Paul J.
Frog is about equivalent to Tamiya. Here are the first few decals that I have printed and sprayed with Krylon gloss coat. I ran out of play time before printing the remainder.
Lou
Final decal printed and drying. All that is required is the leading edge white and she is ready for roll out. Perhaps with luck late this coming week. This a first for me, nearly the end of the first quarter and no model roll out.
Lou
Decals look great Lou, looking forward to rollout, is the honeydo list interfering with your schedule?. Best regards Paul J.
Roll out occurred at 1900 hrs GMT.
Lou
Very impressed with your semblance of "glass" canopy. And the overall paint job. Nice job again Lou.
Cliff.
Nice model Lou!
Very nicely done all around, Lou. Great work with combining paint and decals!
Garet
I can only echo what has already been said, another impressive build Lou, well done. Decals look great. Regards Paul J.
Thank you all very much. I may attempt something simpler on my next aerobatic team model.
