Roger's Hellcat
Over the years I've found that sheet brass will do a lot to strengthen balsa in an inherantly weak spot. I split the tail as shown in order to avoid a more complex situation that could result from passing it through the fuselage. The brass was buried in the tail then capped with a thin piece of balsa and sanded smooth. As far as I can tell, the joint is holding up to the sanding and assembly forces quite well.
