Cessna 310 Unpainted
Work In Progress: 3/8" = 1' scale (1/32 size) Cessna 310 from thumbnail three view appearing in an old "Aircraft Yearbook". Aircraft Yearbook was an annual publication highlighting the aircraft industry in the USA and usually featured three view drawings. Copies can sometimes be found in University libraries. The fuselage and nacelles are pine, tail is basswood sheet, fuel tanks and spinners are basswood. Wing is mystery wood from an old dresser. Exhaust areas on nacelles are built up with epoxy putty. I prefer to use Elmers wood filler for general filling- it dries to the same hardness as the surrounding wood and sands easily. I use wood chisels for carving- I leave a couple of inches extra on the end of the fuselage when first cutting the blank from the pine board. The extra bit is clamped in a bench vise leaving the fuselage free to work on with both hands. When the final shape is reached I cut off the protrusion from the vise and finish up the tapered end last.
