Fairchild 24 Top
1/32 size Fairchild F24 from Donald W. Clark plans. Control surface and cowling outlines made using a wood burner cutting into the varnished and primed model (prior to final painting); a popsicle stick was used as straight edge for the woodburner tool. A rheostat to control the wood burner temperature was made using a light dimmer switch. Ribbing on the wings and fuselage was made by applying .010" styrene strips to the primed model using MEK solvent- cut the strips from styrene sheet, position on model and adhere into place by brushing on MEK. Thick primer was then applied over the strips and wet sanded to blend into the surface. Masks for numbers on the wings were made by first printing the number onto tissue paper then gluing the tissue onto masking tape using glue stick type glue. The numbers were then cut out and applied to model (which was first painted yellow) then green paint applied. After the green dried the masks were removed to reveal the yellow numbers beneath.
