Good guess Barry....yes, it is a Curtiss Hawk type but that covers a lot of airplanes so you need to get specific for the win.

Correct Gordon!
The wheel pants were added at the 1929 National Air Races in Cleveland for participation in the first Thompson race where it was flown by Lt. J. J. Clark.  In it's normal duties as a test bed for the Navy, it did not carry the pants.
