Title: 1/72 Hawker Sea Hawk completed 8 May 2022
Post by: Boomerang on January 29, 2022, 03:14:00 AM
This is for the 1st Generation Jet Cook Up.

All the relevant bits have been cut out. I have worked out a method for doing the wings, intakes and exhausts .

Fin/rudder and stabiliser have been sanded to shape and notched. Bullet fairing turned up on a drill from a piece of Bamboo Chop stick.

Pictures to follow.

I eagerly look forward to your Sea Hawk. It and other of that time frame inspired me to seek an air force career and continue to fire my passion for aircraft.

Lou
PS Will you be doing a clear canopy for this one.

Lou,

I have always liked the Sea Hawk and as you say some of the others of that time frame.

Must be the lines of it. It just looks right.

I have a vague memory of making the frog/novo model when I was a lad.

Tried for an Air Force apprenticeship but that was when I found out I was colour blind. Can't differentiate the dominant hue .

I will do the clear canopy .

Cheers

Wow. It looks a bit like the Banshee with the inboard root mounted engines. Looking forward to further pictures.

Some primer applied. Still some work required on inlets and exhausts. Deciding how to best and easily do the inlet vanes.

Cheers

It does have pleasing lines.

Have located the vac canopy . So its the exhausts /inlets and then some  surgery on the front end.

Pushing along slowly.

More work required on exhausts. Two 1/72 volunteers selected from the pool of Zulu War soldiers.

Bit hesitant about being separated from their Martini Henry's

The exhausts are finished. Just need to add jet pipes ( rolled PVA paper).

Inlet vanes added ( PVA/Paper).

Gun ports done with small round file.

Cockpit started.

Pushing along slowly. Sorting out which decals to use. Plus hanging stuff off f the wings. I'll draw the line at doing 60lb RP's.

I consider that everyone on here does excellent work.

Working on the cockpit. Using a cockpit cut out from an old "Modelaid" magazine. Pilot still undergoing "surgery".

"Bundook " removed. Arms and legs being adjusted to some semblance of a seating position.

pictures to follow.

Where the Sea Hawk is at. Needed some underwing stores. Drop tanks done turned from balsa dowel in a drill. Fins from takeaway coffee cup top
Fitted through a slot.

Need to extend slightly the decals for the Suez stripes and slightly reduce the underwing serial. Need another serial decal for the tail.
The last one refused to detach from my finger.

Nearly ready to hand over to the quality control guy.

Couple more decals to be applied. Touch up where required. Coat of satin clear. Then the canopy goes on.

Cheers

Awesome markings Gordon. I always loved those Suez identification stripes and you nailed them.

They were done using decals. Required a bit of touch up on the top. Have to rework one on the bottom.

Currently getting my head around the fuselage ones. Fiddling with paper templates in order to get the stripes vertical.

Just realised I need to print off another roundel for the side. Must be getting occasional brain fades.

Onwards.

Cheers

I am sure you will find the answer. Do you have any flexible masking tape? I have used it successfully several times.

Nearly but not quite. Handing over to the quality control and extra roundel decal guy.

Shouldn't be too long.

Canopy went on with no real hassles. That leaves 1/72 Gannet, Skua and Whitley canopies in the down the track box.

Cheers

Magnificent results Gordon. Love the way you placed it in the sky. Furthermore, the Suez markings came out perfect and make the model.

Gordon, I really like the look of your seahawk. The clear canopy does add that extra touch of authenticity. Great results with your photos as well. Looks good in the natural light.
