Title: 1/48 CAC CA-15 Completed 14 MAY 2021
Post by: Boomerang on January 25, 2021, 11:31:14 PM
This has been resurrected. Some cleaning up is required but the basics are done.

There was only one built . Prolonged development and advent of jets were its demise.

It is definitely not a Mustang derivative.

It beats having to purchase aftermarket decals. Can't calculate how much SMM members would have spent on all the decals we printed. I often wondered why RAAF used both the Kangaroo and RAF roundels at the same time.

From what I can find the Kangaroo was introduced officially in 1956.

The cockpit contours a proving a bit troublesome but will overcome. Bit of quality control on wing.

Propeller blades have been cut out .

A little bit happier with this now. Cleaned up cockpit area. still needs a bit of tweaking.

Sorting out the recessed exhaust. Need to look for something to easily do the exhaust stubs.

Thinking at this stage to make an Undercarriage. ( still at the pondering stage).

It looks like they let the aerodynamics and power available at the time shape the aircraft. That's why we see current airliners shaped the way they are. Said that the prototype was scrapped.

It had a crash landing and they were a bit slow in getting things done. Jets ere coming in and that was the way they went.

Plus license built Mustangs.

Have cut back the wings with some 400 wet and dry (wet).

Certain parts of fuselage need to be revisited.

Working on propeller blades.

Subtle changes around the nose and canopy done. Experimenting with Silver. Mainly use Duplicolor light silver but have tried Mercury silver . Investigation continues.

Exhausts are done used the insulation off some comms wire I had lying around. Cut to suitable lengths and then Super Glued to a piece of
Thin styrene sheet. The evergreen tubes will come in handy later down the track.

I have bitten the bullet and have started putting this together.

Once all the gaps are filled and sanded a final coat of primer and then the silver.

Propeller blades are only rough fitted.

Shouldn't be too long from finished.

Bit of quality control to do.

Decals applied. Bit of a battle but overcome.

The "P" is printed on clear and touched up with Canary yellow india ink using a nibbed pen then sealed.

I've left off the CAC logo on rudder for moment . Might experiment with shades of Silver.

Just thought I could probably have used a yellow paint with the pen. Bit easier to control than a brush with 3 hairs.

Need to clean up and attach the propeller blades and that is pretty much it.

Cheers

Nearly done. Bit of fiddling to do. Then I can apply my time to the Wirraway and Vindicator.

Decided on another project . Preliminary steps are done . Will update when more progress is done

Finished.

I've left off the radio mast and decided not to try different shades of silver.

Took a while but finally done.

How the mighty have ascended. Great result. Very interesting subject.

Yes, often considered a P-51 derivative on superficial assessment. I understand its design was influenced by the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 and was intended to be powered by a Bristol Centaurus.

Very well done model. Great aluminum finish. The model would certainly draw confusion with the P51. Regards Fraser

It certainly looks fast standing still.

Who knows if they had pushed it a bit harder there might have been some production numbers.
