Hi Gordon,
What's the over all size of the mobile going to be?
Peter
Peter ,
I haven't got that far in my forward planning. Probably 18 inches by 18 inches.
Then again I might just supply the raw materials and let his parents sort it out.
I'll get all the models sorted first and then have a bit of a play.
Cheers
Gordon
Results so far.

Gordon
Tailplane's are 1mm ply. The spats on the GB Z are 1.5 mm ply core faced with balsa.
The undercarriage for the Cassutts are in the plastic bag and are from 1mm ply.
The rest is balsa from the bits box.
cheers
Gordon
It is going to be a great build. Looking very promising so far.
Lou
After a couple of days of solid work ( no pun intended). The fleet so far.
Cheers
Gordon
I admire your creations Gordon. Your grandson will be well motivated to being an aviation buff.
Lou
Progressing along.
Gordon
Beauties each one. I will have to adopt a grandson to have an excuse to make one of these.
Lou
Must admit I'm having a lot of fun doing these.
Bit more work done on the Caudron today
Cheers
Gordon
Very nice indeed Gordon, coming on a treat, regards Paul J.
Thank you , Paul
A bit more progress
The spats on the Cassutts are attached with Blu- Tac at this stage.
Cheers
Gordon
Well done! I think this is one of my favourite project to follow right now on SMM.
Peter
I echo Peter's comment, well done Gordon. The chosen colours are bright and attractive. Will you adopt me as a grandson?
Lou
Thanks Peter,
Enjoying it so far.
Cheers
Gordon
love the cassutts.
Gordon - I'd like to add my note of admiration as well. It's great to see creativity and imagination in this day of electronic everything for children. I'm sure you've created a family heirloom that will be passed on to the next generation.

Home made decals appled to Cassutts.
Have cut some propellor blades out of plastic takeaway food tray.
The GBZ is in the process of having the black trim applied. Lot of masking required.
Caudron progressing. Will have fixed undercarriage .
As to what the 5th one will be the jury is still out at this stage.
Picture to follow.
Cheers
Gordon
Cassutts almost finished.
A bit off the pace with your single engine birds would be a DH88 Comet. I love your progress to date.
Lou
Lou,
I have pondered the Comet . It would have to green therefore it would have to be G-ACSR.
I'll make a decision shortly. Might be the Comet and a Laird Supersolution.
I shall see what happens.
Cheers
Gordon
Very nice Gordon, looking forward to the finished mobile. Regards Paul J.
Cassutts are now completed.
Work progressing on GBZ.
Caudron has its final coat of blue

Gordon
Beautifully done Gordon.
Lou
Thanks Lou,
Three down 2 to go.

Gordon
Caudron progressing.
Added spatted undercarriage and tail skid.
This makes it a C 450 . All thats needed now is a prop, the engine inlet to be done and make some decals.
Decals are basically race number '1" with .
That is turning out to be a fantastic project. Each plane is a treasure in itself.
Lou
Work has come to a temporary halt.
With Caudron I'll have to wait till I get home next to make up some decals and spend some time with the rotary tool around the front.
Cheers
Gordon.
Have been thumbing through my info on the DH Comet as Number 5
I look forward to your comet.
Lou
Wood has been cut and roughly shaped for the Comet.
Gordon
Wing sanded to shape, fuselage coming along. Pic to follow.
Gordon
Bit rough but all the big bits are done.
Gordon
Looks like a Comet to me. Nicely done. I look forward to its completion.
Lou
I'm enjoying it so far.
I'm planning to do the landing light and canopy in some recycled acrylic rod.
Cheers
Gordon
Progress so far.
Just pinned together.
Still more work on fuselage required.
Landing light has been "turned up"using a piece of Acrylic rod ( salvaged from a curtain system) in and electric drill.
Cheers
Gordon
A great innovation on the landing light. The models looks great.
Lou
Thanks Lou
Looking good Gordon, good idea for the light, it's amazing what you can use in building projects, I've just used some bits from a plastic biro to make a nose cone, but can't show you on here as its an egg plane. Regards Paul J.
Show us Paul. Could be useful to transfer to wooden models.
Lou
Caudron completed.
You will note the absence of anything on the fin/rudder. My homemade decal and fine freehand painting skills are not up to it.
On with the Comet.
Gordon
Excellent Caudron by anyone's standard Gordon. That grandson is so lucky.
Lou
Thank you, Lou
I guess he is.
I'm enjoying the process.
Update on Comet will be forthcoming when more significant progress has been made. At the moment its just the
Shaping ,sanding, checking
Cheers
Gordon
Gordon:
Wonderful carving!! Great finish and a vibrant colour to peak a child's interest.
Just wondering what clear finish you applied. The smooth finish and high gloss certainly adds to the beauty of the model.
-ken
Ken,
Straight out of a can of Tamiya "French Blue". Several coats cut back between each.
Watching the Spits with interest.
Cheers
Gordon
A bit of progress. Wing fillets done. A bit of Brunswick Green applied . Landing light to be added.
Nacelles need just a little more work. Mainly the inlet ports and adding an exhaust.
Cheers
Gordon
Again, please adopt me as your grandson. Looking forward to the finished Comet and mobile.
Lou
Coming on well Gordon. Regards Paul J.
These are amazing. maybe they will get your grandson into the hobby when he is older?
He may do. His dad is into RC cars and boats and aircraft before 1939
Cheers
Gordon
New coat of primer.
Bit of surgery will be required on the nose to fit the acrylic landing light.
Shouldn't be long before its finished.
Cheers
Gordon
Can't say enough. Marvelous Comet.
Lou
I just finished building a Commet in plastic and it doesn't look that good. You've definitely got the lines right.
Peter
Gordon:

I've made a start on some decals. Just need to match the background colour.
Cheers

Great work on a beautiful aircraft Gordon. I suspect this has been already mentioned but the following link brings you to a lovely book full of 3-views with sections of most of the famous racers from the first 50 years of flight.

Kenny
Thanks Ken,
I have a similar book in my Archives. Also have the two volumes of the Goodyear racers. Some good drawings in there too.
Pondering getting the cheaper version of "Aircraft of Air racing's Golden Age "by Hirsch.

I can keep adding to this project for a while yet.
Still trying to match the background colour for the decals.

Gordon
Amazing workmanship. Can't wait to see the assembled mobile.
Lou
It looks great Gordon!!
A wonderful shade of green. For some reason the green makes it very sleek looking. Just looking at it, you can easily imagine the sense of speed the pilots must have experienced. I'm sure the mobile is going to be very colourful. Dare I say a family heirloom??
