What is it?
Blimy Lou thats a toughie !!
Lots of dihedral, large wheels,a wild guess is the Beardmore Inflexible ?
Barry.
A 20s/30s high wing monoplane of a stout-ish disposition?
I'll guess Ryan NYP?
Regards
Will
Nope!
Lou
How about the Fairchild 24 Argus ? if we struggle can we see a tad more inwards or upwards ?
Barry.
Hawker Demon
It's an airplane...... That's a joke and a funny one too!
Bristol Bulldog ?
Lou what about this for an idea,as we struggle say after a week you decrease the size of the box to expose more in increments,if we still do not get it after the second week make the box even smaller ? we need to be put out of our misery !
Barry.
We will see more in a few days.
Lou
Westland Lysander....
Stinson Reliant ?
Barry.
Nope nope.
Lou
The wing tip on the left side of the photo appears to have a leading edge navigation light similar to that used on the Hawker Demon, the Gloster Gauntlet and Gladiator and a few other '30s RAF aircraft that it can't possibly be. Perhaps Lou and let us know if we're getting warm.
Mark
Has anyone mentioned the Bristol Bulldog ?
Lou you old tease, this really has got us going.
Barry.
Fairchild 22C
kenji.
So you forced me to give a bit more.
Hint 1. - She is a tail dragger.
Hint 2. - Had only a single year production run
Lou
Aeronca Chief or Champ?
kenji
Negative jenji, but ......
Lou
Aeronca K
Gordon
PS... Good fun! found some interesting and attractive aeroplanes along the way
Nope, next clue on Friday.
Lou
Too many clues Lou. It's a Piper PA-16 Clipper.
http://airbum.com/pireps/PirepClipper.html
Well the picture certainly disguised the small size of this little aircraft, well done Mark, next one please Lou !
Barry.
Mark,
Great! I did not think it to be Piper PA-16 Clipper.
kenji.
I gave away too much
Here's a new one. I hope Lou doesn't mind me posting this but I figured he might like to play too. No clues for a week.
This is a real shot in the dark,is it that flying saucer that the French built post war ?
Barry.
Not a flying saucer Barry.
Mark
Is it an exhaust pipe?
An Italian plane?
kenji.
Kenji,
No.
No.
:D
Mark
It would not be so bad if I could work out which part of the aeroplane it is ?! those are strong shadows on those holes which are very drag inducing,I keep taking a look but am no further forward yet ? no doubt when we see it we will be kicking ourselves.
Barry.
I have just realised, those are cabin windows, looks like part of the wing to the lower right, puts a new perspective on this tricky one.
Barry.
Very good Barry! You are correct.....that is the upper part of a fuselage. The "holes" are window ports and the lower right corner is a wing.
Mark
As they are round windows, we can assume pressurised cabin despite the old look of the photo.
Lou
You can assume that Lou if you want to, but I wouldn't.... ;D
Mark
Perhaps a winged sea going vessel as it appears to be port holes.
Lou
It has a sort of Jules Verne look about it,your nautical comments reminded me of this Lou !
These quizzes do tax the old grey matter.
Barry.

DeHavilland DH 81
Scott I think you mean the DH.91 Albatross ? but that has square windows.
Barry.
Saro Princess?
lou
Not the DH Albatross or Saro Princess. Look at where the windows are, kind of high up on the fuselage?
Mark.
Latécoère ?
kenji
No Latécoère Kenji.
Mark
A wild guess-Beech Starship ?
Barry.
Need a hint.
Lou
Here's expanded view....probably too much but everyone is struggling with this.
Mark
I see two people in the cockpit and some more searching to be had.
Lou
Made by Douglas?
Lou
There does not appear to be any engines on the wings ? could this be a pusher design with the engine at the back.
Barry.
"Made by Douglas?"
No.
"could this be a pusher design with the engine at the back?"
Could be, but tisn't.
Hints coming tomorrow.
Mark
Hint 1: Frog's wouldn't Fly-Rising-off-Ground.
Hint 2: Hector was it's mate.
::)
Mark
GAL Hotspur Glider
Gordon
Correct !!!! It's a Mk.I actually with the smaller canopy and long wings.
Congratulations Gordon!
Mark
Hotspur I with Hector tug, Haddenham Airfield 1941.
See link: http://www.haddenhamairfieldhistory.co.uk/gliders.htm
I found the Hawker Hector but never made the connection. Congrats on a fine What is it.
Lou
Well Mark I have to say that was a corker of a quiz and got our grey matter working,I actually considered the Hotspur last night but did not know of the earlier canopy, the windows threw me as the looked too high for an airliner, also the lack of engines on the wings, things like that.
Next one please !
Barry.
