Templates drying before cutting. Looking to make the yellow wings version.
Lou
I've put my drawings away.
Looking forward to progress
Cheers
Gordon
Parts are rough cut.
Lou
Yellow is a tough color for me to use. Interesting to see the paint scheme.
Fraser
I will spray white primer before applying the yellow.
Lou
Major components block shaped. Contour carving started on the engine nacelle.
Lou
First trip to the paint booth for some primer.
Lou
Undercarriage blisters and tail wheel are attached to the wing.
Lou
Second trip to the paint shop for more primer before yellow wings are painted.
Lou
Decals printed. Sqn is VB-5 USS Yorktown.
Lou
PS Missing atop hat. I will print on clear film and will double them up.
Yellow wings done waiting for the paint to cure before masking for the silver paint scheme. The gloss paint gives a good base for the metallic colour.
Lou
Nice decals Lou, yellow really stands out, Regards Paul J.
Thank you Paul. I went out yesterday and purchased two different yellow spray bombs. This one was the darker of the two.
Lou
The spray bombs do leave a nice gloss.
Fraser
The BT-1 nears completion with just the exhaust stubs and the arrestor hook to install. Here is a peek at the BT-1. I queried why the BT-1 was never award a name as other aircraft. I never received a decent answer.
Lou
PS
1. Look close at the fuselage band and see that the printed red around the B darkens the red painted band.
2. Gordon, Top Hatter logo taken from Vindicator 3 B 13 profile .
It seems like quite a few Northrop military aircraft didn't have names. Black Widow is the only one I can think of at the moment.
I checked on line and you are correct. The Black Widow followed by the Black Bullet were the first Northrop aircraft to be named. There were the Alpha, Beta and Delta in the early 20s
Lou
Northrop BT-1 roll out 22 Mar 2021. Total time spent on the BT-1 was approx. 15 hours not counting paint drying time. Quite an enjoyable small project. Pre WWII aircraft marking are from USS Yorktown.
Lou
Very nice indeed Lou, excellent colour scheme, regards Paul J.
Thank you Paul. The pre-war were very colourful.
Lou
Another terrific effort Lou.
Taking another look at my "yellow wings" stuff.
Cheers
Gordon
Thank you Gordon. The time period was very colouful for US aircraft.
