Started a new 1/72 ID + project. Photos and clarification to follow. I will let you guess what it may be.
Lou
Cessna crane?
I concur with Fraser.
Gordon
Sorry. Did some cutting this afternoon and will again tomorrow. Pictures early next week.
Lou
Going by the BB in your title and the shape of the nose, would that be a Bristol Beaufighter?. Regards Paul J.
Spot on Paul. I am making the Mk IIF with Merlin XX engines flown by 410 Sqn circa 1942/43. I know the Sqn codes are RA, but have not been able to find a picture of one with 410 markings.
Lou
Looking forward to the build, regards Paul J.
Blocked main components.
Lou
Looking forward to progress shots.
Gordon
Block carved components.
Lou
Contour carving has begun.
Lou
I started to shape the wing and mate the engine nacelles.
Lou
Mating of parts continue as well as contour shaping.
Lou
Good choice the MkII .
Looking Good
Gordon
Nacelles attach and puttied. Fuselage just held in place by friction. CHECK YOUR REFERENCES. I followed the drawings I had and placed dihedral in the tail plane. A photo of the aircraft I am modeling shows the earlier flat tail plane. The problem has been rectified. Photos to follow.
Lou PS The flat tail plane is on the early release of the aircraft so if you want to make one seek reference photos. The SMM gallery correct for later models of the IIF
Looking good Lou.
Gordon
Thank you.
Lou
Rear gun blister in rough cut.
Lou
Progress report. The Beaufighter is now awaiting primer/sealer and some minor work on the nacelles. I am experimenting with plastic rod to do the antennae. The nose one is resting in place and will be attached following paint and decals.
Lou
It's certainly coming along. Looks great.
I see from some earlier photos that you have a much better way to fit the nacelles to the wing than I have been using. Use of the Vee notch in the wing would certainly eliminate a lot of work compared to the contour filing I have been using.
One question. I've observed lighter fluid in several of your photos. Do you use it for something other than filling lighters?
It safely stores and dispense brush cleaning fluid. Been using it for over 50 years.
Lou
Beaufighter is primed and sanded. The wheel nacelle blister are attached and await final sanding to blend them into the nacelles. I hope to have roll out during the month of August.
Lou
Oops!!
Actually my models are a long sequence of oops 🤪🤪
My big oops don't make it to SMM.
Beaufighter brush painted and then sprayed with Krylon gloss. I still have to make the decals. I have a serial number but cannot link it to a Sqn code letter. 410 Sqn wore a dark red RA on their birds.
Lou
Fictitious code letter L for Lucy, our dog. Serial R2402 is legit for a 410 Sqn Beaufighter flown Apr 42 to Jan 43.
Lou
Note serial number will be changed to R2402 prior to final printing.
Looking forward to the finished model.
Gordon
Antennae have been attached and await some paint. I used Evergreen plastic rods.
Lou
Roll out 7 August 2020. A very satisfactory build. Finish is Model Master flat black with Krylon gloss coat.
Lou
Additional photos.
Lou
Excellent job as always Lou, well done, regards Paul J.
Thank you Paul.
Lou
Great model Lou! I think the Beaufighter looks better with the Merlin engines. Thanks
Fraser
Thank you Fraser.
