Title: Hawker Hunter 1/48 Scale ................................(Completed 15 Aug 2015)
Post by: lastvautour on March 01, 2015, 04:01:55 PM
New project on a very low priority. A companion to my 1/48 scale F-86. I saw a photo of an F-58A grey cam with a Canadian flag on the fin tip. These belong to http://www.lortieaviation.com/ and do combat training in various countries.

The Hunter has classic smooth lines. Another classic is the SeaHawk or Scimitar. Perhaps future projects?

Thanks Paul. Like all other things on my bench, a few hours here and there is all I can manage for the next little while. A new addition to the family in the form of a 0,56kg puppy will take a lot of attention.

Some wing carving taking place between the pup and yard work now that the weather is good. The wing will be sanded to fit snug to the fuselage and the intake opened up.

Aligning the wing to the fuselage was not working out so another approach. I will attach and carve the intakes and then attach the wing. A 1/8 inch rod connects everything for aligning.

The pup needs a lot more fibre before she become a solid.

Thanks Biggle. Working on the shell casing containers today. Intakes and wings carved but need some sanding before glueing.

Lou:

A great job on the wing and inlet geometry. All the pieces came together seamlessly with the fuselage and look great. I'd be interested in learning your technique to carve out the intakes. Where they simply carved out or drill first and then  carved to final shape?

Thanks Ken. The intakes were carved with a round rasp and then with sand paper wrapped on dowels.

Getting my interest up again after too much yard work. Paint is done and a gloss coat is drying as I type. The decals are at the same stage.

Thank you Paul. There are several civilian outfits doing combat support flying using various aircraft. There are Hunters flying in the US. We have Top Aces in Canada flying the Alpha Jet and IAI Westwind. Details at http://casr.ca/bg-ew-training-top-aces.htm
I have had a yearning to do the Westwind.

Thanks for the link Lou, the westwind is similar to the Falcon 20 that Cobham use in the UK for similar training, the FRADU mk1 Hawks are used to simulate missile attacks against ships. Regards Paul J. http://www.targeta.co.uk/fraviation.htm

Paul, thank in turn for your link. The Falcon 30 was used for years as an EW platform with 414 Sqn. They are sharp looking jets. A Westwind and falcon would make nice companions in my collection. Maybe later, for now to many other things on the want list.

Gordon, your comments are appreciated.
