First flown in 1958, the Caribou has soldiered on for numerous air forces and now continues on as an old pickup truck. My model will be a white RCAF bird used for United Nations work. I chose 1/144 to match my DHC-5 Buffalo. The drawings have been scaled and work will start shortly. I have added a link to a photo of the paint scheme I wish to produce. Long range plans will expand the UN collection.

If interested we could do a UN bird cook-up. UN colours have even been applied to MI-35 Hind helicopters.
Interesting subject Lou, there seems to be quite a few of these working there socks off in various places around the globe.Regards Paul J.
The Caribou has been a busy aircraft. Here is the list from Wikipedia. I am sure that a cartels lords also had them due to their versatility with unprepared field. The UN is not listed seperately as aircraft are not transfered from the host country's ownership

Lou,
I have been thinking of a Caribou for a while.
Plan to scale drawings down to 1/144 along with Herc, Orion and Neptune.
My older brother flew the 'Bou in vietnam with "Wallabie Airlines'.
Cheers
Gordon
I sent you the drawings I will be using already scaled down to 1/144 on 8.5 X 11 paper. Should you have better than those, a copy would be appreciated as I have yet to start the project.
Lou
Major components cut.
Lou
Good start Lou.Regards Paul J.
Major components carved in the rough.
Lou
Looking good Lou, whizzing along as usual!. Regards Paul J.
Your Caribou is looking really good Lou. I particularly like the way you've made the inverted gull wing to fit.
Cliff.
Thanks Cliff. Here are two progress shots. Sanding has begun!!!
Lou
Lou, Looking good .
Gordon
Thank you Gordon. I am now involved with the Bonnie, this Caribou and my Argus and having as great time.
Lou
Primed and first gloss white applied. I ran out of white primer and my gloss can does not have much left in it. I hope enough to finish the Caribou.
Lou
Looking good in its final UN colour Lou, regards Paul J.
Decals are ready for print. I need flap hinges, wing fences and undercarriage. Cockpit windows will be masked off and painted as well as the deicer boots.
Lou
Nice decals Lou, I've managed to find some for my build, but my printer is not printing too good at the moment so I'll have to see how they turn out. Regards Paul J.
Here are revised decals. I should have counted the cabin windows earlier. This time I made them by overlaying them on a scale drawing. Works out better. Since the aircraft is gloss white, either white or clear decal film works. I chose clear and trying out a different printer cartridge. I made an error when I went to the store and picked up the wrong numbered item but it fit and it prints...so.... Initial print looks good. Now we will see after they dry and add the gloss bonding agent.
Lou
Did you do those in Word again Lou ?, I have just found out I do have it installed on this PC, so I may try it with the next lot. I still have quite a few cartridges for this printer, so I hope it lasts until I have used them up .Regards Paul J.
Yes those are made in word. I will be doing this version of the Caribou. I received permission to post this photo.

I currently have to do the outline of the inboard flaps(decal) and the hinge system. I have started the undercarriage for the Buffalo and should be completed sometime later today.
Lou
This will be my last model for 2012. The Caribou is an interesting aircraft to make but well worth the effort. This is my second UN bird but will not be my last. A Nordyne Norseman may follow and a DHC-3 Otter will definitely follow.
Lou
More photos in next post.
This has been a very rewarding project.
Lou
Lou, very nice looking Caribou. Thanks for shareing. Nice decal work.
Well done Lou as always!
Peter
Thank you Mark and Pete. Your comments are always appreciated.
Lou
A really great Caribou, Lou. Wonderful!
Cliff.
Thank you Cliff. I have finished retrofitting wheels to the Buffalo. I hope the Sgt don't mind me running them up indoors!!
Lou
Excellent work on the Caribou Lou, and as said before the decalwork is very nice.Regards Paul J.
Decals are getting better with practice. Thanks for the kind comments.
Lou
PS Norseman drawings have been resized to 1/144 scale. Will not be big at 4.29 in wing span. But that is another post for the new year.
Awesome Lou! The hangar shot is my favourite. Looks like you could walk straight in.
Peter
Being on the short side, I can!!!!!
