I probably would never try carving a "real" F-18, but this one looks like it would be fun to make. How did you come up with a 3-view?

Check out the build sequence at http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v435/Vautour/Air-Toons/
I used a 3 view and sized it so that the fuselage would be the width of a 1" board (= 20mm). I them compressed it until it measured the length of the side view from Blackheartart's F-18. I think it was about 5.5 inches long when I printed it. The wings were sided so it looked good to me. I will see if I kept the drawing and forward it if you wish. It is in my other PC and it is not linked to the e-net. I will try to use your F-101G drawing to make another F-101B. I just need to make the fuselage longer and the canopy a two seater.

One more Air-Toon joins the Squadron. A BAe Hawk Mk 115/CT155 made from clear pine, painted with Model Master paints and Mike Grant decals. Overall build time about 15 hours. Again a joy to make these Air-Toons. Thanks to Dave for introducing me to them.

My latest Air-Toon is also my skunkworks project. Clues have been strategically placed in some of the last 5 photos I uploaded.

Low wing or maybe biplane?  Early 20th century from the looks of the tailplane.

Garet

I made it too easy. Sharp eye Garet. Painting the last of it today. Decals maybe tomorrow.

The skunkworks Sopwith Camel rolled out today. A few scrap pieces of wood, some sanding on the belt sander and some wild imagination. I made the rib pattern using the motor tool and it worked out OK. I needed a bigger diameter sanding drum.

The engine is the flex section of some drinking straws and push rod were omitted due to laziness. The wheels and small winglet is a dowel with the center top and bottom removed. decals on the aircraft are old yellowed decals from the spares box and the wheel stars were home made. I originally wanted to place Snoopy in there but could not find one. Quite a fun project.

A new Air-Toon in the making.

The CF-101B Voodoo 409 Squadron "Hawk One" will be mounted on  a stand with the Falcon AIM-4C flying from under the fuselage. Dave is also making one but is using a different approach.

#24
The 409 Sqn Voodoo is complete and shooting down everything in sight. The markings are a combination of hand drawn, paint over home made decal and spare box decals. Total build time is approx 20 hours.

The squadron now numbers 10.

And the beat goes on. I have selected the BAe Hawk as the next AirToon for my collection, but with a slight twist. I will make four of them and pose them as the Red Arrows which will also fit the Aerobatic Team Build started long ago.
Wood has been selected and pieces marked out. I will await Paul J to begin building as I will provide him with a tutorial for his first solid.

Peter

Hey Lou,

Looks like it will be a fun build. I'm sure Paul will benefit from your tutoring as much as I have. What type of wood are you using?

Peter

Just using scrap pieces of clear pine and maybe one piece of white pine. I don't like white pine as much but beggars cannot be choosers.

Have a few minutes to burn - hence!

Moving right along.
