The topic has been changed to reflect the RCAF's 100th anniversary build.
Lou
Note: This topic was originally "what is it".
Vickers Wellington?
Fraser
I'll go with a B-26 Marauder.
Gordon
And, nope!
This should be a dead giveaway. My wood is not thick enough for the engine nacelles requiring some lamination.
Lou
Mmmmmmmmm!
Off to check the reference material
Gordon
b-26 invader?
Fraser
Beechcraft twin Bonanza?
Gordon
Re-think........
Wing shape does not match Bonanza. Soooooo... I'll go with Douglas Boston
Gordon
The leading edge of the main wing is straight. The engine nacelle is large.Fillet on the front of the vertical stabilizer.
For these reasons, it is "Douglas A-20 Havoc".I had a misunderstanding. I'm sorry.
I am looking forward to the completion.
Gordon has it as the Douglas Boston Mk III. It will be an all black night fighter as used by RCAF 418 Sqn. Profile from Wings Palette.
Lou
Looking forward progress shots.
"Eventually" I will do a Boston done as A28 -21 "X" of 22 Squadron RAAF . " The Leprechaun " Lost on operations Feb '43.
I worked with a relative of the gunner .
A nice looking aeroplane.
Gordon
Block form.
Lou
Carved and rough sanded. The rear of nacelles will require quite a bit of putty. Should that not work out, I will pop them off and re-carved them.
Lou
The shape of "Boston" is nice. Even so, the engine nacelles are big!
Kenji
It does have a nice shape. Purposeful.
Gordon
Thank you Kenji and Gordon.
Lou
Is this from the ID plan?
I decided to use The Blueprint site.
Lou
Quality control on engine nacelles and wing root area.
Lou
I should know the other plane. A trainer?
Looks like the Harvard II currently in use.
Fraser
Yes, the other plane is a Harvard II from NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC).
Lou
Primer applied and requires minor sanding with a high grit paper.
Lou
Next clear gloss followed by windscreen/canopy glass. Top photo digitally lightened for clarity.
Lou
Coming along very nicely Lou.
Gordon
Thank you Gordon. All I have remaining is to construct some exhaust pipes and paint/glue them on. Decals have been applied and some photo taken where the exhaust would not show.
Lou
Roll out 24 Jan 22. The RCAF 418 Sqn colours are quite simple however the red code letters did give me some concern. Overall, a nice project.
Lou
Congratulations on your rollout.
Black paint is nice.
Kenji
Thank you Kenji.
Lou
It's almost an ID model. Good work.
Thank you Dave. I always strive to attain ID Plus status with every model. The Plus is the paint and markings. I found that I get greatest satisfaction building at that level.
Lou
What I meant was that the all black paint scheme looks very "ID". 8)
I took that as a compliment Dave. My models are not quite ID as I don't score the control surfaces, cowling or canopy.
Lou
PS It must be early morning where you are.
Yet another classic. Well Done Lou !
Gordon
Thank you Gordon.
Lou
The Boston is a nice clean bomber design.. Looks great Lou. thanks
Fraser
Thank you Fraser. Always a pleasure to add an RCAF aircraft to my collection.
