Work so far on the XP-55.

Cooling gill added using a thin piece of plastic.

Gun blisters done using filler built up on a small piece of balsa.

Same method will used for the nose wheel blister

Decals will be hand painted when I get the size right.

Counterbalances for canard, masking for cockpit and that will be pretty much it.

Work so far on Type 224.

Cooling radiators added to wings using corrugated cardboard.

Propellor and spinner cleaned up.

To be done:-

Lower exhaust outlet, windscreen and decals and that will be pretty much it.

Progress so far. Decals are hand painted. Bit of cleaning up to do yet.
Getting there slowly.

I bet painting roundels by hand is a big pain. I guess the type of paint used would be a factor in getting good results.  Are you using masks?

Used a template for the stars and bars. Water colour pencil for marking out.
Pencil used again for the numbers and a very fine brush.
Exploring the use of homemade or after market decals for next project.
You're right Dave a bit of pain doing it all by hand.
Still it gives a bit of a sense of achievement when it works out.

I was just reading the article Mark posted on the Air Force museum models. They airbrushed marking on decal paper and then transferred them to the model. Interesting alternative.
