The start of my new Scottish Aviation Pioneer CC.1,the small 1=72nd scale solid model in the foreground was built over forty years ago,my father used to machine parts such as the conrods for the Alvis Leonides engines fitted in this aircraft.
The aircraft had an outstanding performance and could take off from a cricket pitch climbing out at 45 degrees with full flap deployed,the RAF used them for operations in Borneo landing in jungle airstrips.

Pioneer CC.1 takes off from a snowy Baginton aerodrome in the fifties when Alvis Ltd had a engine test facility there,flown by Johnny Williams their test pilot.

Wings and tail surfaces lots of carving and sanding, but at leas he sun was shining.

Close up setting up the ever important dihedral angle,for this I used Gorilla glue then sprayed the area with water and quickly wrapped masking tape around the joins,the adhesive will then swell and the tape stops it exuding too much and seals the joints at the same time,its a neat trick that I found by accident,make sure that you place polythene underneath otherwise it wil weld itself to the bench !

Carrying on with unfinished projects due to the upheaval here is the Scottish Aviation Pioneer CC.1 given a coat of silver paint,the next job is to mark out and hand paint the roundals and serial numbers.
Markings added by hand today and the model finally completed,its going to the Royal Scottish museum in Edinburgh in a wooden crate.
Lou you can finally add something from me to the 2012 models constructed page,I have lost so much time this year with little to show due to the disruptions.

Well done Barry! I'm sure it will be the pride of the museum. As far as you not accomplishing much, I disagree. You have had quite the year of disruptions, the fact you have accomplished anything is very impressive indeed. I think this model is a fitting home coming for you back to SSM. I would suggest a victory roll but in a Scottish Avation Pioneer CC.1 that might be a little scary ;D

The silver finish is rattle can Ford Moondust,just lay it on in a haphazard circular movement, as all good sprayers will tell you silver has to be thrown onto the surface,not precison side to side as solid colours have to,this is because the alum dust self pools in the carrier varnish and linear spraying gives a dry dust line,use a circular motion of the spray cannister covering the surface well covering the edges,also silver paint needs longer to cure than solid colours,give the paint a good week,if its sunny put the model in the sun the best dryer out ! I use rattle cans all the time for my models cannot bear airbrushes,all of that fiddling around to get them to work and clean them out,unless you have an ultrasonic cleaner bath forget them ! when you use primer buy high build,it finds all the humps and bumps and is brilliant,you just sand the marks and blemishes out,its a bit more expensive but well worth it.

Yes just blast the silver on everywhere,believe me it really works,you can see the metal flakes settling into each other as they puddle,I watched them spray a full sized Chipmunk the same way it looked beautiful,they wave the gun from side to side and up and down,you can emulate this with a rattle can,people are too timid with silver.
