A new model is on the bench. This will be an early version of a 1/144 scale RCAF Flying Boxcar.
Lou
Components are rough cut.

My mom worked for DND for a short time and got me an official photo of the C-114 in flight. I always thought it was such a neat looking airplane. Are you doing the lightening paint scheme?
Farser
Yes, it will have the lightning flash but the all aluminum finish. I actually saw an RCAF Boxcar in 1967-68 time frame.
Lou
A bit of work on the Boxcar this morning.
Lou
The wing is shaped and sanded. I place a tutorial on Facebook outlining my procedure for carving wings.
Lou
I guess it is an inverted gull wing. Nicely shaped.
Fraser
Thank you. I have been coaching several new builders on Facebook but have yet to get them to sign up and contribute to SMM. I signed up two, but alas they have been rather absent for our small group.
Lou
Some more progress on my Boxcar. All that remains to carve are the nose gear and struts on the main gear.
Lou
Some minor progress with my Boxcar.
Lou
Boxcar is sanded and has just a few minor issues before priming.
Lou
Almost ready for paint.
Lou
A good size at 1/144.
Gordon
It is bigger than many 1/72 models. I am holding the wing span at 12", +- 1" as I am once again running out of shelf space.
Lou
The red panels are applied and masked. The black basecoat has been sprayed and will be followed with the metallic finish shortly. The decals have been printed. Note, doing fuselage flash is problematic, so extras have been added to the decal sheet.
Lou
I used Rustoleum bright silver for the metallic finish. I will let it cure a few days before handling it.
The Flying Boxcar is nearing completion. For some reason I can't phantom, I paint two main gear doors and left the other in the build box.
Here are the props after several attempts to do a decent job. They have a three-piece hub and four individual blades.
Lou
I am intrigued by the paint and masking sequence for this model.
Fraser
I have been doing that all along. It helps with not having to mask the entire aircraft just to paint the panels.
Lou
Rollout occurred on 25 May 2023. The RCAF purchased 35 C-119F and eventually converted them to C-119G configuration. My model is an early C-119F version. A very satisfying project.
Lou
Very nice looking model with the flag in the background. I've always liked the look of the aircraft.
Fraser
Thank you Fraser. I appreciate your comments.
Lou
Another excellent result Lou.
Great job on the decals.
Gordon
Thank you Gordon. I am quite proud of this one. I received over 900 likes on Facebook.
Lou
I can see why you got so many likes. Nice carving and final finish.
Thank you Dave. My best was my Catalina with just over 1100 likes. I wish our members would just make a comment
