Title: Vee Blocks for Working with Dowels
Post by: Model Maker on January 06, 2017, 12:46:27 AM
I've been cutting and drilling dowels of various sizes (1/16" through 1/2") in preparation for my next project. To make life easier, I roughed out a pair of Vee Blocks to assist with drilling and sawing. The Vee Blocks are simple to make and may remove some frustration when working with curved shapes such as dowels. I've attached a simple set of plans as a starting point.

Photo 1 shows the pair of Vee Blocks

Photo 2 shows a piece of dowel supported in a Vee Block ready for drilling

Photo 3 shows a small diameter dowel (1/16" wooden tooth pick) clamped in the pair of Vee Blocks

Photo 4 shows the the dowel ready for cutting using a Razor saw. The sides of the Vee Blocks can be used to assist in guiding the saw in a similar manner to a mitre box to cut the dowel square.
