Using the 1/72 drawings by Alf Granger scaled up to 1/48.

Tail plane is 1mm ply. Fuselage is balsa. Wings are from basswood. Wing and undercarriage struts from 0.8mm dia brass rod.
Pretty much out of the bits box.

Only one was built . The original engine was a Carden 2 cylinder engine for the 1923 Lght  Aero plane trials. This is the one
I'm doing. It was re engined  for  the  1924 trials and larger wheels were added . Colour was Mid blue and white. All decals
have been printed off.

Looking good so far. Had a look on Wikipedia, this was a small plane.

  Yes wasn't much to it.

There are a couple of others around this period that I'm interested in.
   The Austin Whippet is one.

Another folding wing machine. Are you considering folding the wings?

Great progress Gordon, the rib work is very impressive. Regards Paul J.

Thank you Paul.

Not doing wing folding on this one. If I do an Austin Whippet I'll look at wing folding then.

  Finished .

At 1/48th it has a wingspan of 4 1/2 inches.
Rigging is EZ thread. Struts and U/C  are .8mm brass rod. Wheels are from bamboo chopstick for the hubs and "O" ring cut
down for the tyres. Propeller from the same chopstick. The cylinders for the Carden engine are bamboo skewer wrapped with
thin copper wire. Spark plug lead is from thinner wire and the sparkplug is built up using gray primer from a bottle and
painted  white.  Tailplane is 1mm ply . Tail skid is from 1mm  brass rod. Homemade decals.

The colour info says white with Mid blue fuselage. I've used Tamiya Flat Blue. All finished off with a brushed coat of
  Semi Gloss clear.

Looks great!! I am amazed at the level of detail which you and others are able to incorporate into the smaller scales. I'm still struggling at 1/32 scale with 12"-14" models and you are working with sizes 1/2 to 1/3 of those I am working with. My hat is off to all working at these smaller sizes.

Very nice! So much detail in a small package. I especially like the verity of material. Very inspiring.
