Title: Carving Clamp
Post by: Model Maker on May 01, 2015, 02:59:50 AM
Thought some folks may be interested in a portable carving clamp. It's designed to utilize a Black and Decker Work Mate style portable bench for support, but can also be clamped to a workbench. The hold down clamp and drill press vice firmly hold the carving allowing the use of both hands. This certainly can help to minimize the chance of cuts and nicks. I've used it for 1/32 scale models, but it can be used for any size. The key is to simply ensure the tang height is higher than the drill press jaws, so the hold down clamp comes into contact with the top of the tang.

The plans are conceptual and the dimensions intended only as a reference starting point. No doubt the creative folks on the site will enhance the design. If you make one, please post a picture of your masterpiece.

Enjoy and have fun!!

My pleasure Lou.

I have placed a revised copy of the document in the posting. Added some notes on assembling the blocks and finishing to prevent warping.
