I have started a new project and will continue the project unnamed until some one guesses what it is. It's 1/48 scale and is a Canadian RCAF twin engine trainer.
Lou
PS The topic tittle will be changed in due course to reflect the aircraft name.
Mmmmmm.... Thinking cap on.
Gordon
Cosmopolitan?
Training aircraft.
Lou
Beech king air C90. I was initially thinking Crane or Anson, but the engines are round and the tails don't have a pronounced sweep on the fin.
Fraser
Indeed, this was way to easy for you Fraser. I think the current colour scheme is wonderful and better still, CanMilAir makes a 1/48 decal for 4 different aircraft.

Components are block shaped. A two piece wing which is not the norm for me. The dihedral is so great that I would need a laminated block to shape it in one piece.
Lou
A nice looking aeroplane. Colour scheme looks great.
Looking forward to updates and finished model.
Gordon
Thank you Gordon.
Slowly moving along.
Lou
I like how you will be pinning the wing halves to the fuselage. Looks like it will be strong and help in the alignment.
Fraser
New wings are being fashioned as I was not satisfied with the first set. Engine nacelle blocks have also been cut and await carving. My drawing was correct for the fuselage outline, however the RCAF C-90As were converted to C-90B, hence the differently shaped nacelles. Working with plastic would have created impossible task of doing the conversion. However, happy to work with wood where a few cuts and shavings will produce the desired items.
Lou
Wood is what makes the models fun.😀
I think the KingAir is a nice looking aircraft with good proportions and sleek lines.
The expanded version, Beech 1900 just doesn't look right. Anything that needs six fins added to the tail (and why not add a pair of winglets) to fly straight should have been started with a clean sheet of paper. Just say'n 🤨
The US Arm RC-12 appears to have a few additional antennas added to disguise that fact. I'm not sure how a person would even walk up to that thing?
Fraser
New wing, leading edge extensions and first coat of primer. Engine nacelles are done and will be attached in a few days. I doubt the King Air will be done by new year.
Lou
Coming along very nicely Lou.
Gordon
Thank you Gordon. This will not be completed by year's end as I have decided to order decals from CanMilAir and I can pretty well guarantee they will not be here by Christmas.
Lou
Looks like the new spray booth is getting a good workout.
Fraser
I noticed the overspray is at the bottom of the filter, although the fan inlet is about 3/4 of the way up. That shows be the air flow pattern is better than I originally hoped for.
Lou
Engines are drying. Rear nacelle fairing next.
Lou
Primed, sanded and primed a second time. Ready for paint. Decals ordered last week so with Christmas mail, heaven on knows when they will show up. Hopefully before year's end.
It looks very robust in solid grey. Nice work
Fraser
Will look terrific when completed.
Gordon
Thank you Gordon and Fraser. quality control checks revealed the need for some final sanding. Next will be another coatr of primer and then the white/dark navy blue paint scheme.
Lou
Ready for colour scheme. Decals ordered over a week ago. Hopefully they will be here when the model is ready.
Lou
AK paint over Rustoleum white primer. Next will be clear gloss.
Lou
Note masking tape still on model.
Looking good Lou.
Are you using the Tamiya tape that does curves?
Cheers
Gordon
Thank you Gordon. I am using tape that curves but cannot remember the brand.
Lou
Supply issues will push this model to # 1 in 2022. I ran out of clear gloss. I had my booster shot yesterday and I am not feeling that great today so I probably will not go out.
Lou
I hope it doesn't knock you around too much.
Cheers
Gordon
Looks good so far.
A military version of this, the RC-12 Guardrail, flew over here. Of course, I wanted to carve one after that, but drawings were scarce.
The colours are Royal Canadian Air Force but they are contracted out. We do use military pilots to train other pilots on multi engine.
Lou
Roll out 9 Jan 2022. The decals are aftermarket from Above and Beyond formally CanMilAir. A bit pricey but well worth it.
This Beech King Air joins my Queen Air in my 1/48 collection. The King Air form part of multi engine training at 3 Canadian Forces Flying Training School in Portage La Prairie.
Lou
Lou, the KingAir looks great. The paint scheme is very sharp and shows the aircraft lines nicely. Chrome spinners are a nice touch.
Regards,
Fraser
Thank you Fraser. The chrome is actually from a forty year old Testor Silver bottle.
