Title: Morane Saulnier Type BB Biplane-- Orange Crate Wings!
Post by: scottzepher on September 08, 2008, 05:26:47 PM
Okay, okay, the wings aren't really made out of Orange crates  . . . more like those little wooden boxes that Clemtines come in.  The box sides are made from a nice workable plywood, about 3/32".

Camera couldn't get close enough to show you the wing cross section, but the plywood sanded down really nice.  this time around I've decided to add the ribbing material before applying sealer, which has shown good results on the lower wing (photo shows upper wing).  I tried some old black lithographic tape, which was used to apply lines to newspaper layouts in pre-computer days, so I am unsure whether it's still available.

More to come . . .

I have seen it at Office Max (the paper crepe type tape), but it is very hard to find in general.  I still have a roll I bought at a drafting store in about 1996.  I just did a search on "chartpak tape", and it seems you can still buy it at drafting supply stores.

That's wild, because I think I bought mine about that time as well  ;D ;D
Nice to know it's still around, though.
