Title: 1/32 DFW T28 FLOH ( Flea) Commenced 18OCT2017 Completed 24 MAR 2018
Post by: Boomerang on December 03, 2017, 04:20:20 AM
Always wanted to do one of these.

I've had the magazine in the picture for a long time.

Looks a bit warts and all at the moment . The marks on the wing panels and tail plane are for the cotton thread rib tapes.

Everything is balsa with the exception of tail plane which is ply.

The propeller is 3 lamination's of 64th ply

This won't be finished by the end of the year but early on in the New Year.

Cheers

Should do. I've got some decals made. Depends on what you read as to the colour scheme .
I'm going to go with white overall with black trim.

Also in between this and the Stirlings  is a bit of a side project.

Cheers

Nice. I know that you accurately portrait the craft but is does look like an AirToon aircraft.

It does look a bit weird but it's different. I suppose you could squash it up bit more to get the
Toon effect. .

From what I've read there was a bit of thought put into it. Minimising drag etc..,

Have made up some wheel covers from thin plastic and they have been glued to the wheel blanks.

A new propeller has been made.

Had to  reshape  the nose profile.

Details yet to be added to wings. Radiator and fuel tanks.

That leaves the undercarriage.

Pictures to follow.

  Thank you Lou and Paul.

The undercarriage struts need some work.
I still have to make up some small stuff. Control linkages etc..,

I found some info on making homemade turnbuckles etc.., I'll see what transpires when it comes to
   Final rigging.

Bit more progress although it doesn't seem like much.

Applied some graphite to the wheel tyres and coated in clear seemed to do the job as per website ( link in previous post).
Added filler caps to fuel tanks ( cotton bud stem ).
Resoldered the undercarriage. One side couldn't stand the strain.
Have made up the bits for the turnbuckles ( again from the link posted earlier). A little more agitation of the brain is required to work out the best way to do it.
Have carved a pilot bust. needs some more work.

Had to hit the wing decals with some micro sol to settle them down after a coat of satin clear.

Away next week so little will be done

  Cheers

Progress.....

Wing joiners are brass rod. Made getting the dihedral angle pretty easy.
Lower wing has since been attached to the fuselage.
Control linkages for tailplane have been done using plastic card and thin copper wire with home made turnbuckles.
The blue tape is to keep it all together.

Manufacturing the turnbuckles required for the rigging. Very therapeutic !

Nearly done

The louvers are from thick paper . Couple of coats of dope and white primer. Slit was cut and louver formed with a tool made from bamboo skewer and pushed through using a tissue folded
over to  allow for forming. The foot holds were done using the same method but cut straight from the plan. Some delicate work with a fine pin and a sharp blade was required.

Cheers

The turnbuckles can be a bit frustrating. Depends on getting both bits of the tail into the tube.Sometimes it goes easily. Others its best to put it down and walk away.
The end result is worthwhile (cost and looks). I can tick off making turnbuckles.
Rigging with EZy line was a breeze.
Cheers

You definitely nail those turnbuckle. I am not up to that degree of details but I can appreciate the effort to achieve your results. Bravo Zulu Gordon.
