Added to the solid model sightings gallery, a collection of solid models I photographed on my trip to the U.S. Air Force Museum in September. They were carved from balsa during the 1930s to 1950s, primarily by one person. Over 500 in total, though not all are currently on display.

Welcome Dave,

And thanks for sharing those photos. Wonderful models. So awe inspiring that maybe I'll quit while I'm ahead. It seems that everything's done. Again. But perhaps they should be posted under "inspirational" for they are certainly that.

Cliff.

Cliff,
Most of those depict American types from between the wars, classics as well as the forgotten ones. Of course, there are plenty of subjects left to model from that period if you want to do something different. I bet there were thousands of designs in the 20s and 30s in USA alone, not to mention British, Canadian, French, German, Italian...

Please don't quit now!

As I have the day off, I was thinking of dropping by the U.S. Air Force Museum tomorrow (Monday). Anyone need shots of a certain plane?
