Although the drawings have been printed for a few months, construction was started yesterday with wood selection and cutting the blocks for the major components. Today, after gluing the images, I block shaped the parts and contoured the wing. Despite being a 1/144 model, it is bigger than most 1/72 models in my collection.
It is my intent to do the Coastal Command colours for RCAF 422 Sqn
Looking forward to progress.

The Sunderland has been on my list for a while.
Looking good.
Gordon
Even at 1/144, it is bigger than most 1/72 fighters.
Lou
Major components attached and filler applied followed by sanding and the initial coat of primer.
Lou
Painting the Coastal Command paint scheme has started and decals are printed.
Lou
Looking good Lou!
Gordon
Lou, the bottom float contour of the fuselage is nicely carved. Beautiful shape.
Fraser
Thank you Gordon and Fraser. I use a gouge followed by sandpaper wrapped around a dowel to shape the concave surfaces.
Lou
Painting is done and now the outrigger floats and beaching gear.
Lou
I really like the grey / cream color scheme. It gives the aircraft a solid look too.
Fraser
Thank you Fraser. I prefer the slate/extra dark sea grey; however, it appears RCAF 422 and 423 squadrons flew the all-white or extra dark sea grey scheme. I am doing AB-E from 422 Sqn.
Lou
Launch occurred 29 Nov 2022. Markings are from RCAF 423 squadron. My 1/144 Sunderland is assigned number 80 of 100. The number is out of sequence due to my grouping all 1/144 helicopters under number 75. I now need another 11 models to complete my goal.
Lou
That is a beautiful model. The paint job real
Complements the lines of the aircraft. Including the beaching gear is a nice touch that adds to the feel of the seaplane.
Nicely done Lou!!
Fraser
Thank you Fraser. the beaching gear was necessary as I now put undercarriage on all my 1/144 models.
