Post by: Boomerang on June 26, 2020, 07:30:29 AM
Basically all cut out . Some sanding done. Picture to follow.

One of a number of export versions of Hawk 75 (P36) the N was for the Royal Thai Air Force.

In between everything else that occupies ones time I've managed to get some time in on this .

Basically it has progressed to final assembly and painting.

Picture to follow.

Looks nice!  How did you make those big fillets?

Fraser,
I use a piece of 64th ply for wing to fuselage section. I use a fine proprietary filler that dries hard. I mark the fuselage lines from the cross sections and draw the wing fillet outline.
The good thing with the filler is that you can shape it with a wet finger. So four fingers and a thumb can usually get pretty close to the desired shape.
Its called Polyfilla Door Trim over here.

Great technique, thanks. Never thought of using a thin plywood to support the filler. Like Lou said, poly filler brand is here, although it does freeze in an Unheated shop in winter.

Nearly but not quite finished.

Have started on the underwing markings.

All markings are hand painted.

Just leaves the wing markings and the gun barrels for the wing pods.

Great job Gordon. May I have a photo of that mysterious engine. Is it built up?

 Lou,

I hollow out the cowling to the depth required . I have been lucky that the models I have chosen the inner cowling and crankcase match the diameter of some brass tubes I have .
I have put a sharp edge on them and epoxied them to some hardwood handles. The handles have a hole down the centre to push stuff out ( Also good for cutting thin ply discs)
I mark the position of the cylinders and mix up a batch of the poly filler with a bit of acrylic paint ( sometimes some PVA as well ) . the paint allows you to see things a bit better.

Then dab it on. See the first photo

Well the Hawk 75 is finished . I've left of the aerial and pitot .

Cheers

Another excellent project. Your engine is great. You inspire others to do better.

Lou

Please give me a front quarter view with a slightly larger border for the 2020 SMM Poster.

I printed some 1/72 drawings. I can't find them in the USN ID drawings from WWII. I thought they would be there.
