A 20s/30s high wing monoplane of a stout-ish disposition?

I'll guess Ryan NYP?

The wing tip on the left side of the photo appears to have a leading edge navigation light similar to that used on the Hawker Demon, the Gloster Gauntlet and Gladiator and a few other '30s RAF aircraft that it can't possibly be.   Perhaps Lou and let us know if we're getting warm.

It would not be so bad if I could work out which part of the aeroplane it is ?! those are strong shadows on those holes which are very drag inducing,I keep taking a look but am no further forward yet ? no doubt when we see it we will be kicking ourselves.

I have just realised, those are cabin windows, looks like part of the wing to the lower right, puts a new perspective on this tricky one.
Barry.
Title: Re: What is it? July 2011
Post by: Mark Braunlich on July 22, 2011, 02:00:41 PM
Very good Barry!  You are correct.....that is the upper part of a fuselage.  The "holes" are window ports and the lower right corner is a wing.

Mark
Title: Re: What is it? July 2011
Post by: lastvautour on July 22, 2011, 07:06:07 PM
As they are round windows, we can assume pressurised cabin despite the old look of the photo.

Perhaps a winged sea going vessel as it appears to be port holes.

It has a sort of Jules Verne look about it,your nautical comments reminded me of this Lou !
These quizzes do tax the old grey matter.

There does not appear to be any engines on the wings ? could this be a pusher design with the engine at the back.

Well Mark I have to say that was a corker of a quiz and got our grey matter working,I actually considered the Hotspur last night but did not know of the earlier canopy, the windows threw me as the looked too high for an airliner, also the lack of engines on the wings, things like that.

Next one please !

Barry.
