Title: Douglas Dauntless SBD in 1/56
Post by: johnnytodd on July 06, 2017, 11:33:49 PM
In honor of the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Midway (June 2017) I started on model #9 for the year - this time the Douglas Dauntless SBD.  Dauntless were  responsible for sinking 4 Japanese carriers at Midway, which arguably turned the tide in the pacific naval war.  My goal is to portray the plane in dive aspect with dive brakes opened.  For starters I'll just build the basic structure then cut away and add detail.

Here is the progress for today:  I ordered a set of .30cal Browning MGs in 1/56 scale which will easily convert into the twin aircraft version

Slow progress this month.  Now just finish construction and on to paint.

Awesome workmanship. My SDB is overly basic in comparison.

Well I managed to finish the Dauntless by the end of July.  I painted mine to represent SBD BuNo 2106: http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/attractions/aircraft-exhibits/item/?item=sbd-2_dauntless (http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/attractions/aircraft-exhibits/item/?item=sbd-2_dauntless).  It took me the whole month to complete(slow progress), but I'm pleased with the outcome:
