Australia celebrates its air force's 100 anniversary. Gordon and I have thrown in to make a cook up involving aircraft flown by the RAAF during its first 100 years. I hope others will join in.
Lou
I have chosen to do the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation of Australia (CAC) Wackett trainer. Attached image is from Wings Palette.
Lou
I would like to participate by making a CAC Winjeel trainer.
Excellent Dave. Several generation of trainers.
Lou
I will continue on with on with the CA-15 .
In conjunction with that I will start a CAC Wirraway.
Cheers
Gordon
Excellent. I am still hoping for more carvers.
Lou
I have temporarily halted the Wirraway.
Started a 1/60th Mustang MK III ( 3 Squadron RAAF).
Cheers
Gordon
Nice paint scheme. Looking forward to this one.
Lou
I will mainly use the dbdesign drawings for the Wirraway in conjunction with others I have.
Also looking at the Vought Kingfiisher and Westland Wapiti. Just to be different.
Cheers
Gordon
The WWII trainer CAC Wackett was rolled out 1 May 2021. A nice little project that took approx. 10 hours to make excluding drying time. The lines of the Wackett are simple and easily reproduced in any scale. A very enjoyable and satisfying build.
Lou
Well done Lou. Looks great.
Gordon
Thank you Gordon.
Lou
Mustang Completed.
Gordon
Very nice looking mustang. I like the details of the drop tanks with the seam and filler gauges. Well done!
Fraser
I agree with Fraser on the details. An excellent contribution to the 100th anniversary build.
Lou
This is a great cook-up, it would be nice to see more projects on this theme. The Mustang is looking good, never knew the RAAF flew that version.
Working on a few more. Lesser known ones
Cheers
Gordon
CA-15 finished.
Very nice Gordon, lovely finish on the silver, regards Paul J.
Wonderful finish Gordon. A great addition to the Anniversary build.
Lou
The canopy on your CA-15 looks like glass!
Thank You Dave.
I use and undercoat of white then a light wash of Vallejo silver then knock that back with a very light wash of intermediate green.
Cheers
Gordon
Looks realistic. Thanks for the tip.
Lou
Have commenced a Gloster Meteor T Mk 7.
Cheers
Gordon
The RCAF 441 Sqn flew a couple while waiting for CF-100 to come on line. What scale?
Lou
it will be 1/60th .
Gordon
1/48 Scale Bell Airacobra Mk I serial A53-9 circa 1943. Colour scheme represents an Airacobra from 23 Sqn RAAF.

Well done Lou.
I do like the Airacobra.
Cheers
Gordon
Thank you Gordon.
Lou
Nice job Lou, regards Paul J.
Thank you Paul.
Lou
Meteor has been completed.
Masterful Gordon. You capture the essences of the Meteor.
Lou
Thank You Lou,
I saw this colour scheme some time ago and thought it would look good.
Cheers
Gordon
I have another Vampire that I cut out some time ago.
Also reviewing my drawings for the CAC Sabre .
Both are 1/48.
Gordon
So I've reviewed the Sabre drawings and will probably start one later in the year.
When I cut out the Original Vampire I made a canopy mould for plunge moulding .
Having gained permission to use the imperial hair dryer I attempted some experiments .
I have two canopies that I am satisfied with .
Sooo a 1/48 Vampire is next of the board.
Cheers
Gordon
Tell me more about the imperial hair dryer. Does it run hotter than other dryers and what kind of plastic do you use?
Lou
The Imperial Blow dryer has the same ranking as the Imperial sowing box.
Both need permission to use.
I used some recycled clear packaging . I used the thinner of what I had . Seemed to work.
Gordon
Thank you. I have the same brand.
Lou
RAAF BAe Hawk Mk 127 AirToon. Always fun.
Lou
Wirraway added.
Gordon
Keeping it all alive.
Have something relatively quick and easy in mind.
Cheers
Gordon
Quick and easy is always good.
The attachment is not a quick nor easy build but definitely Australian.
Lou
The BE is a bit tricky but not written off. However the Martinsyde has been on the list for a while.
Gordon
The Miles M2 was impressed into the RAAF from the civil register and used by Communications Flights.
Cheers
Gordon
Excellent addition to the RAAF Centennial.
Lou
Thank you Lou.
I have a few more ideas that will slowly come to fruition.
