why cant i post a new thread in the gallery updates forum?
You should be able to use the new topic icon to post new threads.

Peter, I think the gallery updates section is set up for the system administrator(s) to post only. You should be able to start a thread in the general discussion section.
Lou did post a mention of your gallery in the gallery update messages.
