Title: A new solid ships book
Post by: Will on May 16, 2015, 06:48:58 PM
Hi All,

I 've just bought a new book about scratch building model ships, using solid model techniques.  Its called "Miniature Shipbuilder 2015" by Robert Wilson.  You can find more details here:
http://www.miniatureships.blogspot.co.uk/ (http://www.miniatureships.blogspot.co.uk/).  Its a nicely presented paperback and shows how to create small scale ships from scratch, he discusses tools and techniques and the book is well illustrated.  I bought one of the first (very small) batch which has now sold out though I think they're planning another.  Alternatively the book can be downloaded as a PDF for a reduced cost.

Although he calls his ship models "miniature", that is really when compared to the giant showcase ship models.  He generally builds at 1"=32' (1/384) scale so some of the models are still of a reasonable size.  Worth a look for those of you interested in ships; although Mr Wilson follows  merchant prototypes, the techniques would equally suit more war-like subjects.

Cheers
Will

I have the PDF version of the book it's full of useful ideas. A good source of plans for solid waterline ship models is http://www.rusticmodelboats.com/sciencemodels/science.html back in the day Popular Mechanics had a solid ship modeler club with a new plan every month. Many these plans are on the above mentioned website.
